Inmate Granted Release to Be Pallbearer Flees Custody After Funeral: Cops

Officials in Morgan County, Alabama, say Wendell Dewayne Thompson did not come back to the county jail after a temporary release to family on Saturday.

An Alabama inmate is on the loose after authorities say he never came back to jail following his release for a funeral.

Authorities in Morgan County say Wendell Dewayne Thompson was granted a release to attend the funeral of a family member where he was to act as a pallbearer. 

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department says the 50-year-old did not come back to the county jail after being released to family Saturday.

Thompson was reportedly last seen at the Sharpley Funeral Home in Decatur.
