Gabby Giffords continues to show signs of improvement as her mother says she'll be moved to a rehabilitation facility in Houston to continue her recovery. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.
It's the most optimistic report yet about the miraculous progress of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, shot in the head in the Tucson massacre.
Her mother, Gloria Giffords, tells family and friends in a just-released e-mail, "They are even now having her move limbs on command. So now comes the 'true grit' part. Mark predicts she'll be up and walking around in 2 weeks."
INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander reports that when Giffords finally begins her long, hard road to recovery, she'll be brought to a facility like Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, New York. Alexander went to that hospital to find out what Giffords faces in the fight to get her life back.
Therapist Elizabeth Dominick showed Alexander how therapists try to make daily progress with victims of brain trauma. Here's one example of how rehabilitation can work. Five-year-old Katherine Cook of Kansas City was accidentally shot in the head in 2008. The bullet lodged in her brain and her devastated parents feared the worst, but she survived. Cook began intense rehabilitation that taught her to walk up stairs again. Therapists used things like puzzles to retrain her brain.
Some say that Giffords's mother may be "overly optimistic" about her daughers recovery.
