Things That Go Jump in The Night: Woman Shocked as She Finds Kangaroo on Indiana Property

A woman was surprised when she found out her neighbor's Kangaroo had escaped.

File this under things you don't see in Indiana: A woman walked into her driveway and encountered a hopped-up visitor Monday night – a kangaroo.

Donna Cadwallader called police to tell them the animal was jumping around in her front yard, according to WLFI.

“A what?” a dispatcher can be heard saying in response to Cadwallader's report.

“[The dispatcher] really wasn’t sure that I was telling the truth or not because you usually don’t get a call like a kangaroo,” Cadwallader said.

At about 11:30 p.m., Cadwallader’s dog, Trapper, started barking at a fluffy shadow outside her home. She walked outside to find out why and found the animal.

“I was in total shock,” Cadwallader told the station. "'Cause would you think about seeing a kangaroo out here? I mean, that’s rare.”

Deputy Sheriff Darron Giancola of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office overheard the dispatcher’s conversation with Cadwallader and was out the door in seconds.

"I was ready to go see this thing," Giancola said. "I walked right up to him, and held out my hand, and he came up and kind of hugged onto my arm and chewed on my gloves."

Officers said the kangaroo belonged to a neighbor and was returned home safe.

“It was enjoyable to have a call that made me and other officers laugh and dispatchers laugh,” said Giancola. “Something interesting like that for us to see is not something you have every day.”
