A California man was arrested this week after cops say he threw his elderly mother out of a window then leaped down two stories to beat her as she lay on the ground.
LAPD officials said Fernando Vargas, 40, was arrested early Monday following an argument he had with his 70-year-old mother, Carlota Vargas.
Officer Norma Eisenman said Carlota Vargas landed on the concrete before her son allegedly jumped from the same Van Nuys apartment building window.
Witnesses reportedly told police Mr. Vargas then began to stomp her in the head.
Both mother and son were transported to an area hospital, where Carlota Vargas was pronounced dead. Fernando Vargas was treated for a leg injury.
Vargas was booked on suspicion of murder, KCAL reports. His bond was set at $2 million.
LAPD said he was being tested for drugs. He's due in court Wednesday.
