A young New Mexico woman was tragically killed over the weekend when cops say she was taking part in a dangerous stunt called car surfing.
Wilberta Becenti, of Farmington, died Sunday while cops say she was riding atop a car that was off-roading in the Dunes Off-highway Vehicle Area, according to the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say 21-year-old Becenti was intoxicated.
Detective Lt. Kyle Lincoln told the Daily-Times that the sheriff's office is still investigating to determine whether or not the driver was also intoxicated.
Becenti reportedly fell off of the vehicle while standing on it as its driver drove over rough dirt roads on Bureau of Land Management property near New Mexico Highway 371 around 4:30 a.m.
Funeral arrangements for Becenti have been made for Friday in Kirkland, New Mexico.
No charges have been filed in connection with Becenti's death.
The Daily Times reports that Becenti's was one of at least seven reported car surfing deaths nationwide this year.
