She was showing the weapon to friends when the incident happened.

A North Carolina sheriff's deputy has been fired after she accidentally fired her department-issued gun at a Halloween party, striking her 11-year-old daughter, police said.

Misty Michelle Flowers, 38, who worked at the Lincoln County Courthouse, was reportedly showing the weapon to friends at her home when the gun fired.

The bullet went through a wall and hit the child in the abdomen, police said.

Reports said that a Halloween party was going on in the house at the time of the late night shooting on Sunday.

The girl was airlifted to the hospital where she underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s department cited “gross negligence and disregard of safety for others" as its reasons for firing Flowers.

“During this entire situation my focus has been on the well-being and condition of the child involved,” Sheriff David Carpenter said. “This is a very tragic situation for all involved — the officer, her family, her career and everyone that has been touched by this. We continue to pray for healing of the child and the entire family as the investigation continues over the next several days.”

The State Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the incident.
