The wife of the man accused of intentionally leaving his baby son to die in a hot car has vented her anger at her ex-husband during the trial.
Leanna Taylor got emotional as she told the Atlanta jury: “He ruined my life. He destroyed my life. I'm humiliated. I may never trust anybody again the way I did. If I never see him again after this day that's fine."
As she spoke, her ex, Justin Ross Harris, sat with his eyes closed and his head lowered.
At one point, she appeared to be hyperventilating and the prosecutor asked for a recess.
She left the court after testifying without even glancing at her ex-husband.
Harris left 22-month old Cooper in the rear seat of his SUV for seven hours in sweltering heat while he went to work at Home Depot in Atlanta during the summer of 2014.
Prosecutors say he was sexting with a teenage girl as his son was dying.
Taylor divorced him after the tragedy and has built a new life with a new boyfriend. She was called as a witness for the defense because she says she believes Cooper's death was an accident.
The jury watched heartbreaking home videos of little Cooper with his dad playing the guitar and teaching him to say “banana.”
Other home movies show little Cooper playing at the beach and opening gifts at Christmas. The defense claims the videos show Harris was a devoted dad.
When asked if her ex-husband loved his son, Taylor answered: “Yes he did. Very much.”
Harris faces eight charges: Malice murder, two counts of felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the second degree, criminal attempt to commit a felony and two counts of dissemination of harmful material to minors.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
