A Royal Pain: Prince Harry Rips Media for Treatment of Girlfriend Meghan Markle

As he confirmed he's dating the "Suits" star, Harry said Markle has been subjected to "abuse" and "harassment."

In an unusual and rare statement, Prince Harry is officially confirming he’s dating American actress Meghan Markle while condemning how she's being treated by the press.

Markle is Harry’s "girlfriend," declared a statement from Kensington Palace, which added that she has been subjected to “a wave of abuse and harassment."

They added: “Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments."

The 35-year-old actress’ father is white, her mother is African-American.

The statement was released at the urging of Prince Harry and it made little effort to disguise his disgust and anger.

"Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her." the statement reads.

Police have been spotted outside her home in Toronto, where she films the USA network drama, Suits. home.

Since it was revealed that she has been dating the world’s most eligible bachelor, every detail of her life has been put into the spotlight and under the microscope.

"This is not a game — it is her life and his," the statement read.
