During a recent trip to a Salvation Army thrift store in Santa Monica, California, Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero purchased an outfit with a jacket, pants and shoes that cost less than $50.
Fashion expert Natalie Rotman helped Guerrero hunt for bargains. But first, checking for the latest styles is key.
“One of the things I’ve done for years — take some of your magazines, tear out some of the things you think you like,” she said. “We're literally talking about the No. 1 trend here. From Kendall Jenner to Jessica Chastain, every 'it' girl is wearing velvet.”
Burgundy is the color of the season. They found a gown in that color for less than $9, and added suede heels for $10 and a colorful purse by Nine West for $7.50.
While digging at the Salvation Army, they also found an Anne Klein dress for $15, and Stuart Weitzman shoes that generally retail for more than $100, going for $7. Another discovery was an Anne Taylor two-piece tweed suit going for $18.
Commander Doug Tollerud of the Salvation Army told Inside Edition: “When you spend your money at the Salvation Army, thrift money goes back into the community for rehabilitation centers.
