Boy, 5, Killed in His Room by Drunken Driver; Police Later Find Letter He Wrote to Santa: Cops

The little boy had already written to Santa, asking for a bicycle.

A 5-year-old boy sleeping in his bed was killed Thursday by a suspected drunken driver who plowed through a wall and into his home, police said.

The child’s father had tried to shield his son by pressing him to his chest, but the boy suffocated after his dad and mom became pinned under the wheels of the vehicle.

After the boy and his parents were rushed to a nearby hospital, officers found a letter the child had scrawled to Santa Claus, asking for a bicycle.

The parents are in critical condition at LA County-USC Medical Center.

Three other children were injured in the family apartment, but it was not clear how badly they were hurt.

The Los Angeles Police Department has not released the name of the boy, pending notification of relatives.

Officers arrested the car’s driver, 22-year-old Vrenda Moreno, who has been charged with felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Public Information Officer Sal Ramirez told InsideEdition.com.

The woman told police she had swerved to avoid another car that cut her off. She suffered minor injuries and was arrested after officers said she smelled of alcohol.

She is being held in lieu of $100,000. An arraignment hearing has not yet been scheduled, authorities said.
