Police Officer Buys Toy for Little Girl Found Wandering Alone Outside

No charges will be filed against the parent.

In a heartwarming gesture, a police officer in Missouri bought a toy for a 3-year-old girl who was found wandering outside by herself.

Resident Lacey McCallister snapped a photo of the sentimental moment following a call to police after finding the 3-year-old walking around near a local Dollar General.

McCallister said she saw the girl while driving and immediately parked to find out why she was by herself.

“She was cold had obviously been outside for a little while but she seemed fine other than that,” McCallister told InsideEdition.com. “I asked her where her mommy and daddy were. She said ‘daddy is at work and my mommy is sleeping she won't wake up.’”

McCallister then called police. And when officers responded, the girl was alarmed.

So, Deputy Landreth of the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Office bought her something to calm her nerves.

“When they showed up she didn't want to go with them, she was scared and wanted me to stay with her. I assured her they only had guns to protect her and that they were very nice and we're there to help her,” McCallister said. “The one officer then took her with him and bought her the toy she wanted.”

The manager at the dollar store also donated a toy to the little girl, according to McCallister.

Police said the girl’s father had gone to work and accidentally left the door unlocked and she slipped out while her mother was asleep.

No charges will be filed, police said.
