'This Is Us' Star Working Out With Trainer, Speaks Out About Years of Depression Over Her Weight

She said she wants to have a healthy body.

Actress Chrissy Metz has revealed her struggle with years of depression due to her weight.

The This Is Us actress, who is featured on Friday's cover of People magazine, admitting she fell into a "soul crushing" 10-year spiral of weight gain and depression.

On her hit show, her character Kate also struggles with body image issues.

“You have to use what you have and I wouldn’t have this role if I had already lost weight," she told People. "Now it’s about telling a story of a woman struggling with her weight, just as I have and still am." 

The Golden Globe nominee also proclaimed, "Size does not define me."

She says she's working out with a trainer.

On the show, her character has considered gastric bypass surgery but Metz said she is not considering it off screen. She wants a healthy body and wants to drop some pounds.

“I do want to lose weight. I want to have a fit, healthy body and not have to be put in a box. I don’t want to be limited by anything,” she said.
