"I don't want to say very much about that except it was a very difficult time," she said in an interview with BBC. "We are a family and we will always be a family and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it."
Jolie has been promoting her new film, First They Killed My Father, which she directed and produced. The film is set to premiere on Netflix later this month.
“My focus is my children, our children and my focus is finding this way through," she said.
"As I said, we are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer,” she added.
The film premiered in Cambodia over the weekend, where it was filmed. Jolie and her children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne attended the screening.
Jolie adopted her oldest son, Maddox, from Cambodia after visiting the country.
During the interview, the 41-year-old was asked about what her goal is when she gets up each day.
"Get through the day. It's been a difficult few months," she said.
Her marriage to Pitt lasted only two years but the couple had been together since 2005. It was Jolie’s third marriage. She was married to actor Jonny Lee Miller between 1996 and 1999. In 2000, she wed actor Billy Bob Thornton but the couple divorced in 2003.
