Teen Invites 2-Year-Old Boy With Heart Condition to Her Senior Prom

The two even plan to go to dinner beforehand.

A 17-year-old student has asked a 2-year-old boy with congenital heart disease to be her prom date, and the toddler has his tux ready to go.

Finn Blumenthal will escort Taylor Schafer to her prom at Caroline High School in Virginia in April.

“I posted on Facebook that I was looking for a date to prom, jokingly," Schafer told InsideEdition.com. "Then Kelly (Finn’s mom) commented and said ‘Finn is available. He has a tux!’ I think that it all started out as a joke and then when I thought about it, I thought it would really be awesome to give Finn a chance that he may never get.”

Finn was diagnosed with CHD while he was still in his mother’s womb. Since birth he has undergone more than 10 surgeries, including open heart surgery.

“With a medically challenged child you never know what the future will hold… So for him to have a chance to do that and for her to share these memories with us and our family is extremely touching,” said Finn’s mom, Kelly Blumenthal.

Schafer initially met Finn in October 2015 through a mutual friend, Kim, who also has a child with CHD. After that, she continued following his story through the Blumenthal family's Facebook page.

“I love seeing him pop up on my Facebook," Schafer said. "Finn and Kelly try to raise CHD awareness everywhere they go."

And the pair has an epic prom night planned.

“We’re getting a solid black cummerbund and bow tie" so Finn can look like James Bond, his mom said. “He’ll take her to dinner and I told her he’s going to pay. We want to teach him chivalry even though he’s two.”

A local limo company even volunteered to chauffeur Finn and Schafer.

“He just took his first steps in July, which is a miracle in itself," Blumenthal said, explaining that he wears leg braces because his limbs lost their muscle strength during his hospital stays.

But nothing will stop him on prom night.

"Not only will he be able to walk but he’ll be able to dance," his mom said. "And he’ll probably be climbing over everything."
