“The LAPD have me in cuffs for absolutely nothing,” the singer is heard saying in a video he posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

According to reports, the 47-year-old, who founded the 90s hip-hop group, The Fugees, was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. because his car matched the description of a vehicle used in an armed robbery at a gas station.

He was talking to the sheriff's deputies when he reportedly reached toward his waistband. The officers apparently thought he might be reaching for a weapon, according to a published report.

“I was asked by the police to put my hands up," he tweeted. "Then I was told, ‘Do not move.’ I was instantly handcuffed before being asked to identify myself."

In the video he says, “Y'all see the police have handcuffs on me. They just took off my Haitian bandana. That's what's going on with Wyclef in L.A. right now...

“I am a recording artist. I am coming from the studio. I was recording."

Jean had his hands behind his back and was flanked by two officers.

“I am going to sue the LAPD. Please, I am going to sue. You took off my hat. You put cuffs on me,” he said. “LAPD, another case of mistaken identity. Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working... but I’m in handcuffs?”

Although he repeatedly mentions the LAPD, he was actually pulled over by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

On Twitter, Jean, who appeared on season four of The Apprentice, added: "I was treated like a criminal until other police showed up and pointed out they had the wrong person."

In a statement, the sheriff's department told Inside Edition that "it was unfortunate that Mr. Jean was detained for six minutes as he had no involvement whatsoever in this violent crime."

Despite the apology, Jean is calling for a formal investigation into racial profiling within the department.
