Border Patrol Stops Hearse Carrying Coffin Stuffed with 67 Pounds of Marijuana: Authorities
A white hearse driving near Tombstone, Ariz., was carrying — not a corpse — but a coffin filled with marijuana, border patrol agents said.
Agents at an immigration checkpoint questioned the driver and became suspicious when his answers about where he was going became inconsistent, according to Customs and Border Patrol officials.
A sniffer dog was called in and the animal picked up a scent, agents said. When the coffin was opened, bags of manure were found inside. Also inside were 67 pounds of pot, with a street value estimated at $33,000, agents said.
The 28-year-old driver, an American citizen, was arrested Saturday evening and charged with narcotics smuggling, authorities said.
