Simone Biles and dancing partner Sasha Farber survived another week of eliminations on Dancing With the Stars, but it didn’t come without some controversy.
Some of the judges and host, Tom Bergeron, chastised the 20-year-old Olympian over her smile during her first dance, the foxtrot.
"I don't know if the smile is authentic. I want to see rawness come out," judge Julianne Hough told her after the dance.
Following a trio dance later in the show, Carrie Ann Inaba also criticized her facial expressions.
“You let out your signature smile after you did your trick, which was great [but] I felt you uncertain a little bit," Inaba said.
But it was host Tom Bergeron’s comment that added gasoline to a fire burning inside Biles.
“I was waiting for you to smile at some of the compliments, but you didn't," he said.
Biles quickly snapped back, saying, "Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals."
The Twittersphere exploded after she made the comment with everyone rushing to her side.
“You tell 'em girl!,” went one tweet.
“@simone_biles #savage. Way to put people in their place,” went another.
Carrie Ann is obnoxious, she literally just criticized Simone Biles for being too perfect and too on-beat. That was insane. #DWTS— Corey Cohen (@CoreyECohen) May 9, 2017
Cowboy Bonner Bolton was eliminated after what was arguably the sexiest dance of the evening did not impress the judges.
"I feel like I need to take a shower," Inaba said of Bolton's trio dance. "It was kind of raunchy."
