Mom Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Her 4-Year-Old Daughter: Cops

Laquita Lewis, 34, allegedly killed her daughter at their Houston apartment.

A Texas mother has been arrested after cops say she fatally stabbed her 4-year-old daughter.

Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff's Office says 34-year-old Laquita Lewis texted her family Sunday to apologize for doing "something bad" to the little girl.

Lewis allegedly told the family, including the girl's father, that the child was going to heaven, KTRK reported.

The family members then contacted Harris County Sheriff's deputies, who arrived to a Houston apartment later to find Fredericka Allen dead.

Police believe Lewis stabbed the girl multiple times in the chest and left her on the floor of the master bedroom to die.

Deputies say they have not yet determined why Lewis would have killed her daughter.

Family members aren't sure, either.

"Why would you take the life of a child?" Fredricka's great aunt said. "Your own child? But any child? How could you go and take a child's life like that? I don't understand it, honestly, I don't understand it."

As her loved ones attempt to make sense of the senseless tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help offset Fredericka's funeral expenses.

Lewis is being held in the Harris County jail and is due back in court in August.
