Following an inexplicably awkward moment, Ivanka Trump has rushed to the defense of Florida Senator Marco Rubio after their failed hug attracted internet snark.
The photo is making the rounds on social media, where jokers can’t help but mock the lawmaker with jovial remarks and memes.

Star Trek's George Takei cracked: "Ivanka, perhaps you're taking ‘statuesque’ a bit too literally.”
Even Donald Trump Jr. poked fun at the situation.
Rubio took to Twitter, lightheartedly seeking evidence to prove Ivanka returned his hug after calling for an "investigation."
Based on review of evidence & my own recollection, have concluded no hug was even attempted & press covfefe of alleged failed hug is false— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) June 20, 2017
“New photo emerges providing more insight into alleged failed hug,” he tweeted.

Both the senator, who was famously dubbed “Little Marco” by Donald Trump on the campaign trail and the president’s eldest daughter are having fun with the hug that wasn’t.
"Fake news!" Ivanka later tweeted. "Marco is a great hugger."
