Venus Williams broke down in tears Monday during her first public appearance since a fatal car crash earlier this month in which police say she was at fault.
After winning her first found match at Wimbledon, Williams spoke to reporters for the first time since the accident.
Her eyes filled with tears when asked about the crash and she couldn't go on during the post-match press conference.
“There's no words to describe,” she said. “I'm speechless.”
The tragic accident took place near Williams' gated home in Palm Beach, Fla., as she tried to cross a six-lane highway in her Toyota SUV.
Heavy traffic forced her to stop in the middle of the intersection and when she drove forward again it was right into the path of an oncoming car, killing 78-year-old Jerome Barson.
According to the police report, the tennis great was at fault for 'violating" the elder couple’s “right of way.”
She wasn’t ticketed or charged but the accident is clearly taking its toll.
