Donald Trump ends months of speculation with a big announcement that he will not run for President.
Trump bowed out with true Trump in-your-face boldness, saying, "I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election."
The Celebrity Apprentice star released the statement Monday just as NBC rolled out its fall lineup at a star-studded event in New York.
Negotiations between Trump and NBC went down to the wire, with the tycoon on hourly calls with network executives through the weekend. He finally decided he would forego his Presidential aspirations and sign on for another season of Celebrity Apprentice.
Trump said in his statement, "I've decided that we're going to continue onward with Celebrity Apprentice. I will not be running for President, as much as I'd like to."
Trump's poll ratings have fallen, with the latest finding only 16% of Republicans supporting him. And President Obama's ratings have gone way up in the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Referring to the big noise he made in his now discredited anti-Obama birther campaign, Trump said in his statement today, "I will continue to voice my opinions loudly and help to shape our politicians' thoughts."
