Man Carjacks Friend's Truck, Then Drives Around in Circles for a Half-Hour: Cops

Cops said it started as an argument over a ride.

A Florida man is accused of carjacking his friend's truck and taking it for a joyride — or, as police in Titusville described it, for a half-hour ride around the neighborhood over and over.

When a friend refused to give him a lift, cops say Derrick Clayton, 47, followed the victim, stabbed him, and then stole his truck.

Clayton allegedly left a quarter-inch wound in the victim's chest.

"He was getting ready to get into his truck and Clayton approached him," Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department told WKMG. "They got into a verbal altercation and Clayton pulled out a knife and attempted to stab him and took his truck."

When victim tried to run away, Clayton cut him a second time on his arm, according to the police report.

Cops say Clayton then drove off in the truck.

With the victim pursuing the truck on foot, Clayton reportedly drove in circles around the neighborhood for a half-hour.

Clayton eventually returned the truck to the same location where he stole it, cops say. He's since been arrested and charged with aggravated battery and carjacking.

A Brevard County judge on Wednesday afternoon denied Clayton bond during his first court appearance at the county jail.
