Mom Who Had Baby Nearly 3 Years After Husband's Death Says She Wanted a Child to 'Carry on His Legacy'

Angelina, or Angel for short, is the daughter of fallen NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu, who was assassinated along with his partner in December 2014.

A fallen police officer's widow, who gave birth to their child more than two years after her husband's death, says the so-called "miracle baby" can become a police officer just like her father, if she wants to.

Sanny Liu, whose husband Wenjian Liu was assassinated in his police vehicle along with his partner in December 2014, opened up to CBS This Morning Monday about her new bundle of joy, Angelina.

She said that she had dreamed about her husband giving her a baby on the same night he was killed.

"I hear the baby's crying," she said. "He handed me the baby."

Doctors had frozen her husband's sperm so his widow could use it for in vitro at a future date.

Sanny said that she made the decision to have Angelina to "have a child to carry on his legacy."

She added: "I will show my daughter that her father was a hero. I will show her that her father made the ultimate sacrifice to make this world a safer place."

Angelina weighed six pound, 13 ounces and was a little over 19 inches long when she was born last week.

Wenjian Liu and his partner, Rafael Ramos, were assassinated as they sat in their patrol car on a Brooklyn, N.Y., street in 2014.

There was a sea of blue as thousands of cops came out to mourn their brothers killed in the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn.

Sanny Liu sobbed as she clutched her husband's framed photo at his funeral. They had been married just three months.

"They didn't know if it was gonna work, they didn't know if was going to be a possibility, and here it is two and a half years later, and it's a miracle," Police Commissioner James O'Neill told CBS News of Angelina's birth.

The officer’s widow says it's up to her child whether she wants to become a cop like her dad.
