Woman Who Urged Boyfriend To Kill Himself Is Sued By Boy's Family

They are asking for $4.2 million.

The Massachusetts woman, 20-year-old Michelle Carter, who was recently sentenced to serve 15 months in jail for encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself, is now being sued by the boy’s mother.

Lynn Roy, the mother of Conrad Roy III, filed a wrongful death lawsuit seeking $4.2 million in lost future wages for her son, according to reports.

Roy was 18 when he died of carbon monoxide poisoning after locking himself in his truck in July 2014.

At the heart of the case were chilling text messages and phone calls from then-17-year-old Carter in the days leading up to Roy’s suicide.

“No more thinking. You need to just do it,” she texted Roy on the day of his death. “Just park your car and sit there and it will take, like, 20 minutes. It's not a big deal."

Carter’s lawyer argued that Roy was set on taking his own life and that Carter didn't cause his death.

Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in June and sentenced to serve 15 months in jail on Thursday, followed by five years of probation.

She remains free, however, pending an appeal.

Roy’s family was clearly upset about the sentence.

"You don't want to know our thoughts on today," one relative told reporters. "Go interview her tomorrow while she's at f***ing Disney World!"
