A teacher at an exclusive Los Angeles private school attended by children of Hollywood's elite has been accused with having sex with one of her students.
Aimee Palmitessa, a science teacher at the Brentwood School, was arrested on suspicion of statutory rape on Friday, cops say.
The 45-year-old holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology and taught at the college level before taking a job at the private school, which is one of the city's priciest.
Police said the alleged victim is 16 years old.
In a letter to parents that appears on the school's website, Mike Riera, head of Brentwood School, informed parents of the arrest.
"The Los Angeles Police Department informed us yesterday afternoon that Upper School teacher, Dr. Aimee Palmitessa, had been arrested on suspicion of inappropriate relations with a Brentwood School student and is expected to face charges.
“As always, our primary concern is the safety, health and well-being of our students here at Brentwood School. To that end, we will do everything we can to cooperate with the official police investigation.
"On behalf of our students and their families, we urge media and other observers to avoid posting photos that include Brentwood students who are in no way involved in these allegations. Please afford them the care and protection you would expect for your own children."
Palmitessa has been placed on administrative leave. She has since been released on bail.
Many celebrities and their offspring have passed through the halls of the Brentwood School over the years.
Alumni reportedly include Maroon 5 singer and The Voice judge Adam Levine, former California governor and Terminator star Arnold Shwarzenegger's son Patrick and actor Jonah Hill.
