As Floyd Mayweather emerges from retirement to take on UFC champ Conor McGregor in one of the most anticipated boxing cards in recent memory, many have questioned what the champ eats before a big match.
Before Mayweather’s last battle, the spring 2015 bout against Manny Pacquiao, Inside Edition cooked up some of his favorite pre-fight meals with his former personal chef in Las Vegas.
Quiana Jeffries, aka Chef Q, earned the undefeated boxer’s praises after he found her on Instagram. Once he tried her veggie omelet, the boxer was hooked.
"I am at his beck and call, 24 hours, seven days a week,” she told Inside Edition in the 2015 interview. “Say if I am on a date. If he calls me, it doesn’t matter. I gotta go.”
Chef Q said Mayweather, who she calls “Champ,” once called her at 3 a.m. to make him a dish and she obliged.
His former chef says the boxer eats anywhere between 3-5 meals a day and his favorite food is Caribbean cuisine. She said he doesn’t consume too many extravagant meals, instead opting for simpler eats like spaghetti, tacos and ramen.
Before a fight, like the Pacquiao bout, she said it all depends on his weight and what size he is planning to be before a match. She would typically make him steak or fish and not too many carbs or vegetables.
After the fight, she said it “all depends on what he wants.” She said after one match, the boxer wanted Top Ramen.
“I provide him healthy, consistent meals that are going to better his body and his soul and that is going to feed his soul,” she said.
Chef Q said that Mayweather’s favorite indulgence is fried hot dogs. She starts by cutting slits into turkey hot dogs, then, puts them in the frying pan with a little coconut oil.
"He likes them well done, crispy and then I finish them off with a little barbecue sauce," she revealed.
In the months and weeks leading up to the Pacquiao fight, she said they were focusing on eating a lot of vegetables, protein, and juices to help his body rebuild.
Back then, Mayweather used to pay Chef Q $1,000 per plate.
"It doesn't matter what I'm making. It could be Top Ramen and BBQ hot dogs — $1,000 a plate," she said. “He overpays me. He pays me what I am worth."
Chef Q said back then that her job was never just to cook for someone but saw it as “someone’s life is in my hands."
She added, "This is the man who is the best ever in boxing and my job and my position is not an easy position to have.”
Chef Q and Mayweather have since parted ways, leaving him earlier in the year.
