Jeanette Menard, 73, was shocked to see her grandson standing in her driveway.
At age 73, Jeanette Menard doesn’t see so well anymore. She has glaucoma, which renders her eyesight to fuzzy blurs.
Her family planned a big surprise — the return of her favorite grandson, Nathan Lebrum, a Marine corporal serving in Japan.
It took a while for her to realize he was standing right in front of her, and her amazement when she finally recognized him thrilled and tickled her family.
The Florida grandmother had been led outside the Titusville home she shares with her daughter, lured by reports of a giant reptile in the driveway.
“We had told her there was a big turtle,” Lebrum told InsideEdition.com. “She was looking for the turtle, and it took her a minute or so to recognize me.”

When she did, a yelp escaped her lips and she wrapped her arms around the grandson she hadn’t seen in two years.
“She just screamed,” Lebrum said. “She didn’t really say much. She just thanked God.”
Lebrum’s mom, Christine Foltyn, had crept out of the house at 4 a.m. to pick up Nathan, who was returning from a two-year post in Okinawa.
She had wanted to surprise her mother and hadn’t said a word about his homecoming.
“She was shocked,” Christine said. “And happy.”
