Celebs like Oprah, Bruce Willis, Al Pacino, Gayle King, Michael Strahan and Lupita Nyong’o manned the phones, talking with anyone calling in to donate to the “Hand in Hand” benefit, which aired across all major networks simultaneously.
Some of the celebs, like former Tonight Show host Jay Leno, shared the plight of family members in the hurricane ravaged region.
"I have some elderly relatives in Florida that are kind of stuck in a condo," Leno told Inside Edition. "They're on the seventh floor. The electricity's out, elevators don't work and the lobby is flooded. It's tricky when you're 90 years old."
The event featured musical performances from Stevie Wonder, Darius Rucker, Usher and Blake Shelton and raised more than $44 million for those in Houston and Florida who are now picking up the pieces.
