Melania Trump met Prince Harry over the weekend in Toronto at the Invictus Games which are being held in the city.
It was Mrs. Trump’s first official solo trip as first lady as she traveled to support the wounded warriors who participated in the event.
The games, which are the brainchild of Prince Harry, started in 2014 in London and have taken place every year except 2015. Orlando hosted the 2016 games.
The prince and the first lady chatted in private for about 30 minutes behind closed doors.
After meeting the prince, she came out to greet Team USA.
“On behalf of my husband, I want to thank you and your families for all you have sacrificed to keep us safe,” she told them.
Prince Harry also met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ahead of the games.
Mrs. Trump later joined Prince Harry in the VIP box for the opening ceremonies Sunday.
The prince addressed the competitors in an arena full of spectators, saying, "I hope you are ready to see courage and determination that will inspire you to power through the challenges in your own life... You are Invictus. Let's get started."
Kensington Palace’s official Instagram account has posted images of the prince meeting with athletes and watching from the crowd.
Harry’s girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, was spotted at the games next to her friend Markus Anderson, who introduced the couple. Royal protocol dictates that they cannot sit together unless they are engaged or married. Every so often the prince was seen glancing over in Markle's direction.
It was the first time they have attended an official event together.
