Wife of Fallen Soldier Asks His Comrades in Afghanistan to Help With Gender Reveal

"I wanted them to be the first to know to let them know they're family," Britt Harris said.

When Britt Harris' husband was killed while serving in Afghanistan this summer, she wanted to make sure his comrades knew they were still a part of her life.

So when it came to revealing the gender of her baby, she knew just where to turn.

"I wanted them to be the first to know the gender and reveal it to let them know they're family and part of this journey with me," Harris, 26, told InsideEdition.com.

After finding out the gender of the baby herself, Harris sent her late husband's comrades some confetti poppers and asked them to set them off.

"I came up with the idea because I felt like the soldiers still deployed would be forgotten or feel left out," she said. "They're still grieving; they're just doing it away from the rest of us."

One of the men filmed a video, while the others set off the poppers, which exploded with pink ribbons.

The men scream and clap in celebration.

"I cried tears of joy," Harris said. "It was so great to see how they reacted. It was the first time since Chris passed away that I've felt excited."

Her husband of less than a year, U.S. Army Spc. Chris Harris, was killed alongside Sgt. Jonathon Hunter by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan on Aug. 2. Harris was just 25.

Britt Harris is grateful that he knew she was pregnant before his death.

"My conception date ended up being the day he deployed," she said. "We didn't plan to get pregnant and I didn't find out until after he deployed."

She told him the news over FaceTime just a week before his death, and he was overjoyed, she said.

Their baby girl is due in March. Harris, who lives in North Carolina, said she plans to name the little girl Christian Michelle Harris after her husband, Christopher Michael Harris.
