Police investigating the disappearance of Susan Powell uncovered human remains in a shallow grave in the Utah desert. Authorities are testing the remains to determine if they belong to the mother of two, who has been missing for two years. INSIDE EDITI
It's a father's saddest journey…meeting police for the first time since the discovery of grisly remains that could belong to his missing daughter.
"I was sitting there doing some things on my computer at home and I got a call from the police that said yes they had found human remains," said Susan Powell's father, Chuck Cox.
Cox flew from his home in Seattle to Salt Lake City Thursday after cops on ATVs using cadaver dogs discovered the remains in a shallow grave in a rugged part of the Utah desert.
Forensic tests are now underway to determine if it's the body of his daughter, who disappeared almost two years ago.
The remains were found near Topaz Mountain, a site popular with rock and gem collectors, and just 30 miles from where Susan's husband Josh says he took their two young sons camping in a blizzard on the night she went missing.
The possible break in the mystery came as the new issue of People magazine, featuring Josh Powell, is released. Police call Josh the only "person of interest" in the case.
He continues to deny he had anything to do with Susan's disappearance.
In a bizarre turn of events, Steve Powell, Josh's dad and Susan's father-in-law, recently made claims that he had a sexual flirtation with her and even wrote her bizarre love songs.
Josh Powell released this statement about the grisly discovery in the desert:
"We can only hope that additional information is released quickly to minimize heartache to those of us who love Susan."
