A defiant Michelle Obama fires back at that explosive new book, The Obamas, by New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor. It claims she's spent her time as First Lady feuding with top White House staffers and focusing on her designer wardrobe.
The First Lady sat down at the White House with CBS This Morning's Gayle King. The two are actually friends. Michelle agreed to the exclusive interview last month because she wanted to help with the launch of King's new morning show.
Michelle told King, "Who can write about how I feel? I guess it's more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman. But that's been an image that people have tried to paint of me since the day Barack announced—that I'm some angry black woman."
King told INSIDE EDITION, "I kept thinking she's going to cancel. She's going cancel. Even yesterday I said, 'Did the First Lady's office call?' Not only did she not cancel, when I got there they said there's no question that you cannot ask her."
Michelle says the book makes too much of the incident.
"They say things they don't mean sometimes. That's why I don't read these books," said Michelle.
King told INSIDE EDITION the interview took place in the First Lady's office. Michelle wore a J.Crew dress from four years ago.
"She gave us an hour of her time, which, as you know, is unprecendented for the First Lady. She's a little busy," said King.
