INSIDE EDITION had the first-look at underwater video that may solve one of the greatest mysteries in U.S. history.
The stunning discovery comes from researchers using a small, high-tech submarine to search the remote island in the South Pacific where Earhart is believed to have crashed in 1937.
The underwater footage is revealed for the first time in the Discovery special Finding Amelia Earhart: Mystery Solved? airing Sunday night.
Rick Gillespie led the expedition. He's made it his life's work to find out what happened to Earhart, who was one of the most famous women in the world when she left on a perilous flight to circumnavigate the globe. Her story was most recently told in the 2009 movie Amelia, starring Hilary Swank.
Earhart and her navigator simply vanished on that ill-fated flight.
Up until now, only tantalizing clues like a jar of anti-freckle cream, have been found on the desolate island called Nikumaroro which is 2,100 miles from Hawaii in the middle of nowhere in the South Pacific.
Gillespie admitts in the special, "What we don't have is the single magical smoking gun that removes all doubt."
However, thanks to the amazing underwater video, we may finally know what happened to this legendary hero so long ago.
