Food Network Star Guy Fieri is firing back after getting the worst possible review for his restaurant. The wild-haired Fieri is best known for his popular show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
His over-the-top style has been parodied on Saturday Night Live by Bobby Moynihan.
"It was really pretty mind-blowing. I've seen a lot of reviews, nothing that was that out of bounds," said Fieri.
But Fieri is really taking it on the chin over a New York Times review this week titled "As Not Seen on TV." Food critic Pete Wells gives an almost unheard-of zero stars rating to Fieri's 500 seat American Kitchen and Bar in New York City's Times Square.
The entire review is a series of sarcastic questions put straight to Fieri:
"Hey, did you try that blue drink, the one that glows like nuclear waste?"
"Were you struck by how far from awesome the 'awesome pretzel chicken tenders' are?"
"Does this make it sound as if everything at Guy's American Kitchen and Bar is inedible?"
McInerney said, "This was mean."
"Yeah, I think there might have been another agenda," said Fieri.
Another reviewer of the New York Post agreed that the food at Fieri’s restaurant is terrible and wrote, "I wouldn't feed the mess to a cat."
But, Fieri said he takes pride in not catering to the gourmet crowd.
McInerney had lunch today with Fieri at his restaurant, and said, "Let me tell you, it sure tasted good to me."
"I'm going to have to get you on my tasting committee," Fieri joked.
Fieri and McInerney toasted to what Fieri called, "A crazy week."
