Boston Bombers Manhunt Grows Intense After Shootout

One of the largest manhunts in U.S. history is underway in Boston after a dramatic night of police chases, gunfire, explosions, and one suspect dead. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

A dramatic manhunt grips the nation on live TV with the TV and cable networks going wall-to-wall covering every breaking development.

Here's how the dramatic showdown with the accused terrorists began.

Cops say at 10:20 p.m. the two brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar robbed a 7-Eleven store. The younger accused terrorist was captured on surveillance photo.

At 10:30 a police officer at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 26-year-old Sean Collier was ambushed while sitting in his car and shot dead in cold blood.

Moments later, the brothers carjacked a Mercedes SUV and a wild chase began with the terrorists shooting and throwing explosives from the car through the streets of Watertown just outside Boston.

Around 1 a.m., the terrorists were cornered on a quiet street. A shootout with cops ensued.

Cops reported, "They have explosives. Some type of grenades. They're in between the houses down here."

Tamerlan was killed with guns blazing. Cops say there was a suicide vest strapped to his body.

Pierre Thomas of ABC News reported, "These men were throwing grenade-like devices, walking into the fire. The suspect who was shot dead was apparently walking toward police firing at them. So that shows resolve."

Photos were taken by Andrew Kitzenberg, who lives in a second story apartment right above the shootout scene. He tweeted them while the drama unfolded. One photo he took shows bullet holes in a wall and chair in his apartment, showing the intensity of the gun battle.

Kitzenberg actually did a live interview via Skype, pointing his laptop computer right out the window.

"They have been very, very careful in this area. The bomb squad robot has been there for at least a half hour now."

Tamerlan's 19-year-old brother managed to escape into the night.

NBC News' Pete Williams reported, "Police say he then drove over his brother in the car to try to get away, and eventually jumped out of the car and started this astonishing series of events this morning."

At 9 a.m. an army of heavily-armed cops searched for him door-to-door.

At 11:45 a.m. the terrorists' uncle erupted in anger on live TV at his two nephews.

"Of course we're ashamed! Yes, we're ashamed! They're children of my brother," said the uncle.

Incredible moments unfolding on live TV as America holds its breath.
