Man Slits Wrists In Today Show Crowd On Live TV

During the Today show broadcast, a man in the crowd took out a knife and slit his wrists. Security and a medical team rushed to the scene. INSIDE EDITION has the details.

The Today show became the news this morning when a crazed man tried to commit suicide in front of stunned on-lookers.

A man in the crowd pulled out a knife and began cutting his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt.

He's been identified as Pak Chong Mar from New York City. In a cell phone video he can be seen staggering and then being tackled by security.

Lauren Estel was on a class trip at Rockefeller Center.

"This guy jumped over the barrier and he was screaming about the IRS stealing his money and then he threw some papers in the air. Then he pulled out a box cutter and started cutting away. There was a lot of blood," said Estel.

In one image, the man believed to be in his 50's can be seen holding the knife as he's confronted by a New York City cop.

Matt Lauer and his co-hosts were set to go live from the plaza when the disturbing incident unfolded.

Matt Lauer said on the Today show, "A short time ago a man out there attempted to harm himself with a knife. He did manage to cut himself. He was controlled by our security team out there. However, he did harm himself in some way, so he's now being attended to by medical personnel because there was a knife involved, as we just mentioned. So, we're keeping that area clear for law enforcement right now."

A woman who works across the street told INSIDE EDITION, "Matt Lauer came by. He was kind of checking it out. He looked really shocked."

The suicidal man was taken to a local hospital were he's being treated for his injuries.
