The wait is over!
Kate gave birth to a baby boy at 4:24 pm. The little prince weighed in at eight pounds, six ounces. She was in labor for at least 11 hours, having been rushed to the hospital Monday morning at 5:30 a.m. London time.
CBS News London correspondent Elizabeth Palmer is on the scene. She said, “They came in under the radar. Behind me are dozens and dozens of reporters and photographers from all over the world!"
Queen Elizabeth awaited the birth of her great-grandchild at Buckingham Palace.
Back at the hospital, every precaution was taken, with extra supplies of Kate’s blood type ready in case of emergency.
She gave birth in a delivery suite that costs a reported $10,000 for the first night and $4,000 for each additional night. The luxurious rooms have soothing murals by a famous London artist, internet access, satellite TV, and an extensive wine and champagne list for the celebration after the baby's arrival.
INSIDE EDITION’s special royal wedding correspondent Amanda Holden, a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, used the same midwife who is now at Kate’s bedside.
INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander asked, "What kind of midwife is she?
Holden said, "She is incredibly funny, she has a great sense of humor and as every woman knows you kind of need that when you are in labor. She is very practical, she is very calm, very together. I know she is in great hands."
Believe it or not, the full moon over England might have kick started Kate’s labor.
OBGYN Alex Tepper said, "The moon affects the tides and the human body is 80% water, so there are people who believe that the moon can effect the water surrounding the baby causing spontaneous labor to occur."
Over the weekend, Kate and William waited out the final hours of her pregnancy at Kensington Palace. Kate is also said to have taken private pregnancy yoga sessions.
We still do not know the baby boy's name. British bookies are taking bets on the name. Odds are on George for a boy.
The late Princess Diana famously followed the astrological calendar. If the royal heir had been born before 5 p.m. on Monday, he or she would have been a sensitive Cancer like William and Diana.
But we now know that this royal heir is a Leo, known for their fiery, extroverted personalities. Famous Leo’s include President Obama and Madonna.
