Republican Nikki Haley triumphed in her primary race for governor of South Carolina despite recent allegations of affairs with two men. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley had to overcome an obstacle usually associated with male politicians: accusations of adultery!
Republican Nikki Haley stood proudly with her husband and two children after coming in first in the primary race for governor in South Carolina on June 8th.
But her image as the picture-perfect wife was challenged by two men who claimed to have had affairs with her, a blogger named Will Folks, and political consultant Larry Marchant.
"Yes, we did have a one-night affair," Larry Marchant told INSIDE EDITION.
"Tell us the circumstances behind your alleged liaison," says INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent.
"It was just one of those things that just happened. The press has been saying, you know, 'Where's the proof?' I was married at the time; she was married at the time. We didn't want any proof!" Marchant claims.
Marchant claims the alleged affair happened two years ago, after they'd both attended a conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
But at a rally in South Carolina, Haley told INSIDE EDITION neither affair ever happened.
She said, "I have said that over and over again. My husband and I have been faithful to each other for thirteen years!"
"I challenge her to take a polygraph with me!" says Marchant.
He took a lie detector test for a local station in South Carolina, but the results were inconclusive.
"I could care less why he took a polygraph test!" said Haley. She seemed impatient with the matter, which keeps coming up.
"I will waste no energy on these people who've wasted more time trying to bring me down!" she said.
She had the support of Sarah Palin and she was also endorsed by Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of disgraced South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who has faced his own infidelity scandal.
Haley will face a former congressman in a run-off for the GOP nomination on June 22nd.
