It was an almost unimaginable scenario—an explosion at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on the first anniversary of the bombing that killed three people and injured more than 200 others.
Alicia Anskis filmed the man's strange antics.
She told INSIDE EDITION, "I noticed he wasn't wearing shoes, he was acting a little strange, wearing all black. As he got closer to the finish line area, two cops approached him and pulled him aside."
Police say he dropped his backpack, and told them it contained a rice cooker, much like the pressure cookers used to make the deadly devices in last year's bombing. It was detonated by the bomb squad, and fortunately turned out to contain nothing but confetti.
A second suspicious bag was also detonated. It’s believed to have been left behind by a news crew in a rush to evacuate the area.
Edson was arraigned on charges of possession of a hoax device. He pleaded not guilty and was sent to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.
Edson can be seen in his flamboyant YouTube videos. He is a self-proclaimed performance artist and fashion designer. His mother said he is bipolar and was off his medication when he allegedly created havoc with his antics.
A disturbing ending to what had begun as a day of remembrance.
