Ebola nurse Amber Vinson speaks out in her first TV interview.
Speaking with Matt Lauer on the Today show, the 29-year-old nurse who contracted Ebola while treating patient zero, Thomas Eric Duncan, said she didn't feel she was prepared to deal with the deadly virus.
Vinson explained, "We did not get much training. The first time that I put on the protective equipment I was heading in to take care of the patient."
Before Vinson's diagnosis, she flew from Dallas to Cleveland and back to prepare for her wedding. During that time her colleague, Nina Pham, tested positive for Ebola.
"That Sunday when I heard about my colleague, Nina, coming down with the virus, I was floored. I was afraid for myself and my family. Because I did everything that I was instructed to do every time. And I felt like, if Nina could get it, any one of us could have gotten it."
Vinson also shared with People magazine a photo of her with fiancé Derrick Markray, a former New Orleans Saints football player. Vinson and Markray have had to reschedule their wedding.
