A boy cried out, "I'm stuck down a chimney!"
The terrified boy was indeed stuck down a chimney! He fought back tears as he spoke to a 911 operator from inside that dark, narrow space.
The boy said on the call, "I really wanna get out!"
It all began when thirteen-year-old Frederick forgot the keys to his Scottsdale, Arizona, home. Frederick then phoned his sister, Rachel, to tell him his crazy plan to get inside.
Rachel told INSIDE EDITION Diane McInerney, "I think he just really wanted to get in the house, and he didn't want to get in trouble for misplacing his keys. He was like, 'I'm going to try and go down the chimney, I don't want mom to be mad.' And then I said, ' No don't go down the chimney, you're going to get stuck.'"
But, he didn't listen, and when Rachel called him back, she got the shock of her life.
Rachel said, "He said, 'I'm stuck in a chimney.'"
McInerney asked, "How did you react?"
Rachel replied, "I was freaked out, I told him to call 911 right away."
The 911 operator did her best to calm him down.
Frederick said, "I'm scared."
The operator replied, "I understand. Everybody's there. They're gonna get to you."
"Okay," the boy replied.
The operator then told him, "Just try and slow your breathing down, okay? You've got plenty of air. You're not gonna run out of air or anything."
911 operator Nicola Boyd spoke to INSIDE EDITION about the incident. She said, "That's the first time I've had a call where somebody was trapped in an enclosed space. Especially because he was a child, I felt so sorry for him. I am also very claustrophobic and I thought to myself what would I need to do to stop my self from panicking."
The operator even helped the boy see the humor in the situation.
Frederick said, "I can't believe I got stuck down here."
Body responded to him saying, "Yeah, it's going to be an interesting story to tell your friends, huh?"
For more than an hour, rescuers struggled to free Frederick.
McInerney asked Rachel, "How did they get him out of the chimney?"
"They had to tear the chimney apart from the inside," replied Rachel.
Frederick may be out of the chimney, but his troubles aren't over.
"So was mom upset just a little bit?" asked McInerney.
"You know, hes actually grounded," answered Rachel.
Grounded is still better than being stuck in a chimney!
