New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio Stands By Controversial Warning To His Son

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio appeared on Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and stood by his controversial warning to his bi-racial son, Dante to be cautious when dealing with police.

Appearing on Comedy Central's Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio stood by his controversial comments about telling his bi-racial son, Dante, to be cautious when dealing with police.

The mayor said, “A young man of color today needs to have that conversation in his family. It's something that everyone knows and it's not a comment that's disrespectful to the police.”

De Blasio's original comments caused uproar from the police union and led hundreds of officers turned their backs on him at the funerals for those two slain police officers in December.

De Blasio said, “Police to protect us. We respect the police.”
