Lisa Guerrero Recalls Cold Case She Helped Solve, Bringing Justice for Slain Toddler
For Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero, who joined the show in 2006, she says her most memorable assignment was an investigation where she was able to help bring justice for a slain 2-and-a-half-year-old girl named Juliette Geurts.
Guerrero recalled how she was contacted by a woman who said her niece, Juliette, had been beaten to death when she was a toddler and there were three adults home with the child that night, including the victim’s mother.
The case went cold in 2008 when local authorities never charged anyone with the murder. That is where Guerrero and her team stepped in. She successfully tracked down three of the adults present to see if one of them got away with murder.
The girl’s mother eventually accused her ex-boyfriend of killing her child. The girl’s aunt also had collected signatures for a grand jury to reopen the case and with the help of Inside Edition, justice was finally served.
In 2015, the mother’s ex-boyfriend was convicted of intentional child abuse resulting in death and sentenced to 80 years to life in prison.
