Man Arrested in 1995 Kidnapping of 9-Year-Old Girl

A man wanted for his suspected role in the 1995 kidnapping of a little girl has been arrested after more than 20 years on the lam, officials said.

Kevin Lin, 68, was taken into custody in Southern California by the U.S. State Department Friday after applying for a passport with his real name, authorities said.

Lin's photo was matched to one that appeared on a wanted poster issued by the Hillsborough Police Department in 1995 after the kidnapping of 9-year-old Kristine Chiu, KABC-TV reported.

The little girl was reportedly held for $800,000 ransom for nine hours. It was the hope of the kidnappers that Chiu's parents, who were believed to be wealthy, would pay a large sum for their daughter's return.

But the child's mother and father were in Taiwan when she was abducted.

She was found unharmed inside a hotel at San Francisco International Airport.

Lin was taken to San Mateo County Jail and is being held on $5 million bail.

Another suspect in the case was caught and found guilty in 1997.

A third suspect has not yet been captured, according to reports.
