Man Leaves 'Holiday Gift' of Manure on Steve Mnuchin's Porch Following New Tax Bill
A California psychologist who wanted to show U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin just what he thought of the recently passed tax bill has come forward as the man who left a Christmas-wrapped box of horse manure outside Mnuchin’s home.
The gesture, allegedly orchestrated by Robby Strong, reportedly prompted the LAPD Bomb squad to close Mnuchin’s Bel-Air street over the weekend in response to the package and the Secret Service got involved.
Calling it the “Secret Santa project,” Strong documented his mission on social media.
“I was talking to a friend about the tax bill and we were both complaining about how it’s total horse sh**,” Strong told CBS News. “And one of our friends who happens to be there, owns horses. One thing leads to another. You’re having a couple of drinks and you’re like, ‘Let’s do this!’”
Strong went to his friend’s horse ranch in Sylmar, packed up some poop, and dropped off the Christmas packages at Mnuchin’s homes in Bel-Air and Beverly Hills.
“[I] wanted it to be nice and festive,” Strong told the station.
He placed an envelope containing a card on the box. In it, he wrote, “Dear Mr. Mnuchin & Trump — We, the American people are returning the “gift” of the Christmas tax bill. Because it’s complete and utter horse sh**.”
The $1.5 trillion tax overhaul was signed into law Friday by President Donald Trump. Strong believes the policy favors the rich at the expense of the poor and working class.
Strong said he has received death threats since the gesture.
Neither the U.S. Secret Service nor the Los Angeles Police Department, both of which investigated the incident, would confirm Strong was responsible, CNBC reported.
But, Strong posted an image of the card on the package to Twitter.
"Misters Mnuchin & Trump — we're returning the 'gift' of the Christmas tax bill," Strong wrote on the post. "Warmest wishes, the American people."
It is not clear whether Strong will face any criminal charges.
