Police, Public Works Employees Work to Free Fat Raccoon Stuck in Sewer Grate

Zion Police Department

Officers with the Zion Police Department tried to help the animal, but were unable to pry the creature's rotund body from the narrow space.

This ring-tailed bandit must have made off with one too many plates from the buffet.

A hefty raccoon was left squirming when it got stuck while trying to climb out of a sewer grate in a Chicago suburb, police said.

Officers with the Zion Police Department tried to help the animal, but were unable to pry the creature's rotund body from the narrow space.

“It seems this little guy has been eating a little too well and got caught in the sewer grate,” police said in a Facebook post.

Photos of the incident showed police struggling to move the chubby critter, which appeared to be less than thrilled to be poked and prodded in their attempts.

They called in the Zion Public Works Department, which aided in the rescue mission.

“They were able to free him and our friend was no worse for wear,” police said.
