Eliot Spitzer Announces Return To Politics

Five years after a prostitution scandal, Eliot Spitzer is attempting to make his way back into politics, but will the public forgive him? INSIDE EDITION has more.

Disgraced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer speaks out about his stunning announcement that he's jumping back into politics.

Spitzer is running for New York City Comptroller, where he'd oversee the city's finances.

"I ask forgiveness and whether voters will decide to give it is up to them," Spitzer commented.

He's making a political comeback out of the blue, five years after resigning over that infamous prostitution scandal with call girl Ashley Dupre. The now iconic image of his wife Silda standing by his side is said to have inspired television's The Good Wife.

Despite reports of a split, Spitzer says he and Silda are still together.

"Politics is tough. It's tough and I made it tougher and I feel remorse about that, but I have supported my family and so I'm deeply, deeply thankful for that," Spitzer said.

Spitzer is already facing brutal headlines such as, "Lust for Power" says the New York Daily News and "Here We Ho Again!" says the New York Post.

He was asked about the ridicule by Gayle King on CBS This Morning.

"You need will power. You need fortitude. You need skin as thick as a rhinoceros has," Spitzer said.

Spitzer is just the latest disgraced politician to stage a comeback. Former Congressman Anthony Weiner tweeted a shirtless photo of himself, but he's now a front runner in the New York City mayor's race.

Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford confessed that he visited his mistress in Argentina instead of hiking the Appalachian Trail, but he recently won a special election for Congress and his mistress was right beside him.

Now, Eliot Spitzer hopes his bad behavior will also be forgiven.
