Surfers Rescue Deer Struggling in Waves off New Jersey
Two men paddled in to help get the deer back to dry land.
Oh, deer!
When a doe got into a little trouble off the coast of the Jersey Shore, some surfers paddled in to help.
Sam Halprin, 17, was surfing when he spotted the animal bobbing up and down in the water.
"I was like, 'Oh my god, it's a deer,'" he said.
The deer was struggling to stay afloat in the frigid 50-degree water.
"I gave him a couple of pushes and he started swimming away from me faster and headed in toward the beach. And then he got pushed by a couple of waves," Halprin said.
Another surfer raced into the water to join the rescue attempt.
Halprin said the surfer "ran right up and grabbed him and started carrying him like he was a dog."
The doe sure was glad to be back on dry land.
