The dog had run onto a busy road when the accident occurred.

A 12-year-old Virginia girl will be buried with the dog that she died trying to save.

Jennarae Goodbar was with her dog, Cash, outside of her Lexington home on Saturday when the pup took off running toward a busy road, according to reports.

As she tried to catch Cash, they were both hit by an oncoming vehicle that was unable to stop in time, WTVR reported.

Jennarae’s mom, Donna Jean Stuples, told the station that the pair will now be buried together at her funeral, which is scheduled for this coming Saturday.

“She will always be remembered as a sweet, energetic, dog loving, hunting loving little girl — a little girl who touched the lives of many,” the family wrote on a GoFundMe page to help with Jennarae’s funeral costs.

The campaign has already raised nearly $20,000 as of Tuesday morning.

Authorities are currently investigating the accident.
