Chris Watts' Alleged Ex-Lover Says He Plans to Visit Him in Prison: 'Once, Just for Closure'

Trent Bolte, 29, said they had once planned to move in together.

Not too long ago, Chris Watts and his alleged gay lover were planning their future together.

Trent Bolte, 29, of Colorado told Inside Edition exclusively he and the now-convicted killer had planned on moving in together during their 10-month love affair.

“We went and looked at houses together in Fort Collins,” Bolte said. “I was in the process of moving out of where I was staying. I was planning on getting a two-bedroom apartment, but Chris was like, ‘No, I’m going to be divorced. We need to look at three-bedroom houses and the girls can have a room.’”

He claimed to have met Watts on the dating app MeetMe in May 2017 before they became romantically involved.

Bolte knew he had a family, but assumed Watts was separated until later on in their relationship. He said he even had a close call with being discovered by Watts’ wife Shan’ann, who he suspected found a pair of his underwear in Watts’ truck last spring.

Bolte said he was sickened when Watts killed his pregnant wife Shan’ann and his two daughters, Bella and Celeste, just months later in August.

“I think Chris is a monster, he definitely has the ability to be one,” he said. “Why didn’t he just divorce her? Why didn’t he listen to me? I mean, why [did he feel] like that was his only way out?”

Watts pleaded guilty to murdering Shan’ann, who was 15 weeks pregnant, and his two daughters in order to avoid possibly getting the death penalty. He was sentenced to five life sentences in November.

Bolte said he does plan to see Watts in prison once his name is added to the visitation list.

“Once, just for closure for me. After that, I don’t want anything to do with him,” he said. “It’s not like I’m still in love with him, but I still view him as the Chris that I knew.”
